The annual senior citizens' party took place in Charlie's Bar on Sunday the 18th of Jan, 2004.  This was a change of venue from previous years and was a great success.
The day began with mass which was celebrated by  fathers Danny Broderick & Pat Griffin.  The M.C. for the evening was John O' Sullivan, Scariff who performed his duties with ease, like a real professional.

The following are some snapshots of the occasion & when clicked will present a larger picture which will include other guests.  Click the Back button to return to this page.

Mrs. Nora Murphy of Ballinakilla (on left) shared the distinction of being the "Most Senior Female" at the party with Máire Bn. Uí Shé of the village (on right).

Both have 92 years clocked up!
We wish them many more years of good health.
After a few "Hot Toddies" and a little chat about old times the guests were shown to their tables by members of the hard-working committee.  All enjoyed a delicious meal which was cooked by chef supreme, Michael Lucey.

Paddy Daly, Islandboy took the title of "Most Senior Male", clocking in at 85 years.

Donal O' Shea, Octive took the "Runner-Up" prize in the "Most Senior Male" section at 84 years.

After the meal, some guests stretched their legs while others caught up with local news and all were treated at the bar.
Music for the evening's entertainment was provided by the inimitable Paddy & Rose who performed all the old favourites.

All were delighted to see Mary Jones looking so fit and healthy after her stint in hospital.

Anne Sheehan, mother of Sheila O' Dwyer, Beenbane, was in her usual good spirits

When the music started , it wasn't long before the floor was filled with enthusiastic dancers and when it came to dancing the "Set" Fr. Danny Broderick showed them how to do it Firies style.
Young dancers and musicians displayed their skills and were highly appreciated by their elders.  A special well done to those young people, their parents and their tutors, who took the time to be there.

Catherine O' Shea, Octive looked radiant for the occasion.

It was great to see our good friend and gentleman, Dan Curran, Garriney looking so fit and well again.

Mary Shea, Beenbane certainly enjoyed the day's proceedings.

The whole occasion was a marvellous success and we say congratulations to all who contributed in any way towards the organising of the event.  It goes to prove the old Irish saying: " Ní neart go cur le chéile" which roughly translates to " Mighty deeds can be achieved when people co-operate" or " There's strength in numbers"

Bridie Murphy, The Terrace came along and met old friends once again.

Paddy Carey, a well known local fisherman on the lake, probably wondered who would catch the first salmon of the season.
(season opened yesterday)

Paddy Casey, Ballinakilla was in his usual good form.

Tess Quinlan,Kenneigh enjoyed the camaraderie of the afternoon.

Paddy O' Sullivan, Moulcore showed he still possesses his dancing skills in the set.
